Rochester Art Therapy is a counseling service that utilizes Art Therapy practices devoted to helping individuals achieve healing, understanding, and recovery from a variety of struggles.
What is Art Therapy?
Using art can feel intimidating at first. Art therapy is a unique method of counseling that incorporates the use of art materials during sessions. Examples of materials utilized are paints, markers, pencils, crayons, and clay. The use of art materials will be at the discretion of the client in order to preserve a feeling of safety.
Some anxiety is normal and there is no "right" or "wrong" in Art Therapy. The therapist is there as a guide if you are feeling stuck or would like to learn more ways to use the materials. Art and creativity have the potential to be very healing which may come from the art-making process as well as the narrative that may come from a completed art activity. It has the potential to produce symbolism related to problem-solving, acceptance, and recovery. |
What to Expect
After a brief consultation to ensure it is a fit for your needs we will setup your first intake session to clarify a treatment plan supporting your personal goals. In the sessions that follow, we will start to work on those goals. Sessions are typically weekly and may span across 6 months, a year, or longer. |
How We Can Help
The main feature of sessions is supported by Person-Centered Therapy. You choose what you would like to work on in therapy. The therapist serves as a guide and will work with you to create measurable goals. Without measurable goals we may not have a clear vision of what you would like for the outcome.

Outcomes
Outcomes will vary with each person. Recovery and healing require you to slow down and nurture yourself in order to see better outcomes. We are devoted to helping you work through these struggles.
